March: The Ray Mann Three

To celebrate our birthdays, a group of us went to see the Ray Mann Three (who recently supported Al Green here in Oz) and I was overwhelmed not just by their beautiful music but their joyful vibe and happy energy that was infectious.

Etoile Marley for Ray Mann Three

Singer, Ray Mann creates his own animations, visuals and poster art. At the gig he described his motivation as wanting to get what was in his head when he sang out in front of the audience too. I love it when people embrace all of their creativity and use it as expression.

The simple but striking illustrated visuals added another hypnotic dimension to the sound, it was the first time he’d set up a gig with projections and in my opnion, the experiment worked.

Prior to the gig, we’d heard about them but being typical “digital natives”, we googled them too and uncovered some of their own music vids they had created for $50 - including the one below with dancer Etoile Marley ( a fan they met at one of their gigs while she was bouncing about on a stool!).

If you like funky soul with a twist then these are the guys for you…..

OLPC Amazing Product Design – Laptops for Charity

I’ve been a fan of this organisation for a while now and would love to do some work for them (possibly resolution #3 for 2010!).

One Laptop Per Child have  released photos of the new concept for their hardy laptops which are donated to children that don’t have the same opportunities to have the web at their fingertips and a wealth of accessible and free knowledge.

Spotted: Paste Up Art in Enmore

Luckily my dodgy old Nokia N95 has a half decent camera on it as I carry it everywhere, one of the main reasons is to capture anything street art wise that interests me. This could be anything from guerilla knitting to graffitti to paste ups (like this one below).  I’m never sure as to what is ‘real’ street art to what is actually some pr or marketing agency. Anyway, I’ve also decided to experiment with Tumblr (shock horror) but with the focus on stuff I have spotted and that inspires me around the Inner West so we’ll see how that goes :-)
